Brother Derick (b.1998) was born in Kingston-upon-Thames, England. He received a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Brighton in 2020.

He primarily sculpts with wood. This recurring motif comes from a deep appreciation of the environment, growing up in London’s Green Belt, and of wood’s fundamentality through humanity’s existence.

He approaches woodworking as a meditative process; using industrious, cyclical methods to unconventionally reinterpret the material and comment on the values we associate with it.

His art reaffirms that even in a technologically advancing world of AI, metals, and plastics, wood is not superseded. We are symbiotic with our environment and wood has sustained its position as a pivotal material throughout our evolution.
